WeChat Applet (mini-App, “little program”, App-in-an-App) is a special framework designed by Tencent that provides a light solution for developing, deploying, using mobile application within the WeChat eco-system. It allows users to launch new Apps without download and integrates with WeChat advanced interfaces like payment, location and user system. This mini-hackathon, right before WeChat Applet’s official launch (Jan 9, 2017), gives us an opportunity to share ideas with each other. You will team up with developers, designers, business persons to turn your idea into a Minimum Viable Product using WeChat Applet.

After three hours’ efforts, two groups of participants have developed Wechat mini-app prototypes and detailed product plans. The two products are both about revoluting event management.
The first team has developed a trendy and convenient event app called R.S.V.P., which stands for Register, Simple, Visible, Payment. The app applied the real-time payment technology and is able to unify the process of registration and payment, with other fascinating user-friendly interface and options. Event organizer could manage events with better quality control, with the option of setting the guest quota and blacklist. In addition, the app can interlink with Google calendar for tracking attendance and sending invitation.
The other team is driven by people’s strong needs for basic information and networking at mega events, like industry conference and awarding ceremonies. The mini-app, Kaihuilou, is designed to help users save their time on searching information and finding right people. For instance, an embedded electronic booklet can be found to guide users reach their destinations in event venues which is also much more enviromentally friendly.
